Jolyon Rubinstein
New Media Producer / PR supervisor
Jolyon Rubinstein joined Disruptive Element Films in October 2007 as Disruptive’s first in-house New Media Producer and PR supervisor.
Jolyon grew up in North London. Jolyon took a 4-year BA in Politics and International Relations at the University of Sussex, between 2000 and 2004. This took him to study in New York for a year at SUNY where he specialised in American Foreign Policy under visiting Professor Noam Chomsky. During his spell in New York he was suspended from the Politics faculty for organising large anti-war demonstrations.
On returning to England, in his final year as an undergraduate he made his first short, ‘The Unwelcome Visitor,’ for filmmakers against war. The film focuses on the reaction of the anti-war movement to the state visit to Britain of President George W Bush in November 2003.
Jolyon then started working as an actor, staring in The Bill, and Chris Morris’s Nathan Barley before training in both acting and directing at Drama Centre London, Central Saint Martins where he did an MA in Performance between 2005 to 2007.
On graduating in 2007, Jolyon co-wrote/directed ‘Swan Song,’ for Focus Up Media, a 19 min short shot over 4 days on National Trust Land in Cornwall. The film was completed at The Mill, De Lane Lea and Abby Road where a 16-piece chamber Orchestra recorded the score.
Jolyon’s experience in New Media comes from working with the likes of BigBalls Films and Chrome Productions where he gained solid experience with some of the most exciting young directors in the country.
As a writer/director Jolyon is developing a number of scripts for the digital shorts scheme run by the UK film council and is currently producing the second short by Franky Frears, ‘Cries of London’.
Jolyon is directing and producing EPK’s, Buckets, Virals and Artist Promo packages and prior to working at Disruptive worked with the online magazine Don’t Panic as a video content adviser.
